At the end of August and first week of September 1998, Roberta and I took a trip to the UK including Scotland and Cornwall. Although my wife has a very strong Cornish heritage and family history, my family never talked about their past and I had no sense of my heritage. My father talked about being French but this was because he liked Brandy and had very good French friends. His father died when he was 6 years old and he really never knew his family background. My search to understand my heritage made me realize that my PEEPLES name was not French but Scottish.

This trip to England offered the opportunity to see Scotland and the borough of Peebles. We took the 3 + hour train trip to Edinburgh (the capitol of Scotland) and arrive on the last Friday of the great TATTOO and music festival. Knowing this we had booked in advance (over the Internet) at the LINDORES Bed & Breakfast in Peebles. Carl Lane (owner) offered to pick us up at the train station. We stayed one week in Peebles in the Tweed Valley and can say it was one of the most enjoyable times we have had. The saying "Peebles for pleasure" was a true statement. Carl (the owner of Lindores B&B) was always willing to share his vast knowledge of the area and offered to take us to local areas of interest. Thanks to him, we have several great pictures of Peebles and the Tweed Valley.

Another person we met was Julian Goodacre, a bagpipe maker. We met him at the performance of "No Spring Chickens" held in the Neidpath Castle. Julian invited us to see how he made his bagpipes and to hear what a Cornish bagpipe sounds like.
